Safety First

UDC’s Safety Program

UDC Corporation has an extensive safety program that is ever changing to meet the needs of our employees as well as our clients. Our safety program meets or exceeds Cal/OSHA and MSHA requirements and we’re pre-approved for work by 3rd party audit companies such as ISNetworld.

In terms of safety, UDC has come a long way since we first started in May of 1984. Back then safety wasn’t as high of a priority as it is today. Today we have a much higher safety awareness throughout the company and not only do we believe in “Safety First”, but we also believe accidents are preventable and that everyone should go home in the same condition when they come to work. We are not only interested in the health and well-being of our employees and subcontractors, but for our customers as well. As an added measure to ensure a safe jobsite, upper management and/or the Safety Department gets involved with all high-risk activities such as confined space, scaffold work, excavations, trenching, critical crane lifts, and roof work.

All our employees have the “authority to stop work” when there is an imminent threat to life, property, or equipment. Many UDC employees are experienced in working with scaffolds, lock out/tag out, confined space, and are trained to use forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts, as well as reach lifts. We also have certified riggers and signalmen available when cranes are needed on our job sites. To meet the demand of our customers, we have AWS and LA Certified welders in our shop as well as in the field.

UDC employs a full-time Safety Manager with over 30 years’ safety experience in the construction industry, oil refineries, and offshore oil platforms. In addition to the above, experience in confined space rescue, certified in firefighting at the University of Nevada, Class A Hydraulic Crane certified, OSHA 30-hour, CPR/AED, scissor lift, forklift, aerial lift trained, 40-hour Hazwoper, NFPA 70E, has experience as a California Certified Emergency Medical Technician, in addition to Combilift C-Series Forklift Operator and Trainer.

In addition to client site specific safety requirements, our field superintendents and foremen are trained and required to utilize our job specific Job Hazard Analysis tools/forms to identify and predict hazards in the workplace before and during tasks performed. If needed, multiple Job Hazard Analysis forms are filled out as conditions change and/or when new employees are added to the crew of each jobsite.
